"Another smash hit!"
    —Doom Stone's battle cry

Overview[]

Basic Information[]

Doom Stone is an earth element sentient stone statue who is a part of the SWAP Force with the Spin ability. He first debuted in Skylanders Swap Force as a Gimmick-Lander.

Character Development[]

Etymology[]

  • Dominic = Lordly, belonging to God, of the master
  • Marcellus = Young warrior
  • Stone = Rock

The name "Dominic" means "lordly", "belonging to God" and "of the master". “Dominic” means “lordly”, “belonging to God” and “of the master”. “Marcellus” means “young warrior” and derives itself from Mars, the Roman god of war. Stone is just another word for rock, and is what statues are made from. The first syllable of his first name is one letter off of his Skylander name, and the surname remains identical.

Background[]

Appearance[]

Doom Stone is a sentient stone statue. He stands at 8ft tall and weighs somewhere around 8,000lbs.[1] His entire body is Slate-Grey in color with only his teeth and eyes being different. His teeth are undefined (being only a strip) of white rock and his eyes are round spheres of white rock (forming the sclera) with a jade circle embedded in each one (forming the iris and pupil). His pupils are actually circular indents in his eyes.[2]

He has a very sturdy and stylized build of the ideal male figure. He has a dramatic triangular/hourglass figure with large torso and much smaller waist. His arms and torso are quite literally chiseled with muscle definition and noticeable sculpting marks, especially on his fingers. He has a notable jawline, and it and his hands' knuckle joints are also quite sharply defined, whereas the rest of his body has slightly softer shaping albeit with uneven surfaces.

Instead of legs, he stands on a conical pillar made of of 4 rotating gearlike plates that spin opposite directions. Each segment gradually tapers into a smaller point as they go down his body: the first segment is as wide as his torso and the last segment is vastly smaller in diameter. These segments are not completely connected to his body and can be seen hovering, disconnecting or pulling apart, however they never lose their shape and cannot move independently (best seen in his victory animation and whenever he uses his belt attacks).

He wears a Greco-Roman-inspired suit of armor. His helmet resembles a Roman Centurion Helmet with a visor and fin made of jade. His chestplate is somewhat more medieval-themed with its tank-top shape that fully covers his torso. He wears gauntlets on his lower arms that resemble Greek temple columns. He also wears a thick belt covered in jade spikes.

Personality[]

"Doom Stone is a fearsome opponent but is always happy to help his friends with any task. He is most likely to appear stony-faced in battle and least likely to stand around."
    —Skylanders: The Complete Collection

Strong as a metamorphic rock and as powerful as a landslide, Doom Stone is as fearsome as he is resilient. He’s always stoic in battle, unfazed and unbothered by whatever comes his way, an intimidating and menacing foe to face. His determination is unwavering in his goals and he has vowed to stand up for those who cannot and fight for those who need it. Like a true knight in gladiatorial armor, he is chivalrous and honorable, protecting the masses from the forces of evil.

Doom Stone is an eternal optimist. It's hard to get him down and even harder to turn him cynical. He's always looking on the bright side of life, but is also very realistic and abstains from toxic positivity. He's quite a helpful hand and is incredibly selfless with a protective nature carved into his heart. Often he can be too selfless however and often foregoes himself for others more than he should to the point of completely dismissing himself and consequently suffering harm. He's had his helpful and charitable nature been taken advantage of and used more than once because of it, and because of this, he finds it hard to say "no" to people, although he's sensible enough to refuse to partake in anything malicious. He is benevolence brought to life with immense patience, understanding, empathy and kindness for the vast majority of beings. He's never rude, unkind, passive-aggressive and he always maintains a reasonable and gentle approach during confrontations (that aren't on the battlefield or with someone who's proven to be a complete tool). That being said, he isn't to be underestimated or seen as weak or stupid.

Doom Stone is quite a bit naive and often socially unaware. While 100+ years of social contact with the SWAP Force has taught him to recognize passive-aggression, sarcasm, friendly teasing and so on, it's only with them that he's capable of really deducing and understanding. Outside of that group, he still struggles to a high degree and sometimes takes things too literally or doesn't realize that he's being taken advantage of or insulted. Because of this, he usually refrains from such things, meaning everything he says is often literal, serious and genuine. That being said, he's still a part of the SWAP Force and can be a little snarky and sarcastic when he needs to be. He's also incredibly genuine and honest with his thoughts and opinions. He never gives backhanded compliments or doesn't mean what he says. He also has no issue giving very affectionate compliments albeit with no strings attached. For example, he will freely say that Free Ranger is attractive to his face with absolutely no subtext (not flirting, not anything beyond a sincere and genuine compliment). He tends to be incredibly dense and unaware of subtext and implications which ties into the above as he might say that someone has a very attractive body as a compliment, unaware that such a thing is usually seen as flirting or situationally-inappropriate.

It's rare that he's ever angry, but he has one major trigger and that's bringing harm to others. One example is when Trap Shadow and Blast Zone kicked Free Ranger off the team in the 2nd series of Skylanders: The Early Years and Doom Stone punched Blast Zone so hard that he dented the Furnace Knight's armor.

Biography[]

"Doom Stone was carved from the strongest and purest stone in Skylands, then magically brought to life by a wizard who was rather lazy and wanted someone strong to carry heavy things and perform other tasks around his castle. Doom Stone happily helped, and in his spare time learned the ancient ways of Stone Fighting should he ever need to protect the wizard, who became like a father to him. Sure enough the need arose when the wizard was kidnapped by his evil twin brother in order to steal his spells for himself. Doom Stone wasted no time in using the skills he learned to save his master. Afterward, the wizard knew Doom Stone had a greater calling and introduced him to Master Eon, who made him a Skylander."
    —Skylanders: The Complete Collection

After the events of Imaginators, Doom Stone was one of the Skylanders who Master Eon encouraged to get therapy and find some constructive, low-risk and healthy hobbies to take up. Though he was discontent with being unable to protect and care for others the way he did, he soon found that therapy was a great help for his mental health. Years of taking on the problems of others and more was finally able to be unloaded and dealt with.

Relationships[]

Free Ranger[]

Doom Stone and Free Ranger are incredibly close with one another as they have been friends since the very first mission on the SWAP Force. The two often hang out together, bringing each other snacks and doing each other favors. Their friendship is quite different to the rest of the SWAP Force; often considered to be “sweet” and “wholesome” by onlookers and teammates.

Doom Stone sees Free Ranger as “the adventure that he was looking for”, a driving force of nature who showed him a world he’d never seen and gave him a place to unload and be free. Free Ranger takes care of him like he takes care of others, always checking in on him and letting him vent or seek advice. He’s viciously protective of Free Ranger, having seen the bird at his most vulnerable and emotionally fragile, and swearing to protect him from harm.

The two often refer to each other with nicknames; Doom Stone oft calls Free Ranger "Ray", a diminutive of his given name "Radyn".

It’s heavily implied throughout the series that Doom Stone has strong romantic feelings for Free Ranger, something even the SWAP Force believe and have bet on for the past 200 years. It's also implied that these feelings are reciprocated and this is confirmed in The Greatest Mistake. As of Dandelions, the two are confirmed to be in a relationship.

Story[]

Doom Stone was one of the members of the SWAP Force that were returned to Skylands by the Portal Master. He took part in the plot to prevent Kaos from evilizing the Ancients and fought in the final battle inside of Mt. Cloudbreak.
